SOMETHING INVISIBLE
Something invisible called polio left young Hattie crooked. Her parents moved to the country hoping to keep her brother safe. A native woman named Grace with a deep connection to nature befriends the young girl beside a powerful lone, ancient tree where they meet throughout the summer. The crookedness of the old white pine spared the tree from loggers but left her an orphan in a meadow too devastated by the stealing of all the trees to produce another forest. The ancient tree tells Hattie her story and, along with Grace, teaches her esoteric secrets of the balance of nature. Something invisible healed Hattie that summer and something invisible healed a memory of loss in the meadow.
Where does peace begin?
A graphic novel for children, teens and adults .
A surly polar bear and a defensive black bear find they are chained to one another after surviving a plane crash. Neither has ever known a bear so different. They have nothing in common. The bears look different, sound different, eat very different things and come from different environments. In order to safely be free to return to their natural homes, they must build trust, work on nonviolent solutions to their problem and find common ground. In the process they become unlikely friends.
The story explores attitudes and feelings which keep us separate and fearful of others who are not like us and suggests ways to new understandings and attitudes which benefits all. It softly addresses issues of racial, cultural and physical differences and is WHERE PEACE BEGINS.
BUT THEY ARE NOT LIKE ME
I have ten fingers
I have ten toes
I look like everyone else
But nobody knows
People say I am autistic.. There are many others like me...like there are different flowers in the meadow, we are also beautifully different.
A young boy tells his story of how it is for him to be autistic .
Everyone is different,
That is just the way it goes.
Distance does not block the ability of two friends, who are suddenly separated by half a country, to mentally communicate with each other. Ellie, in the foster care system, is tormented by the popular girls while on a winter camping trip with sled dogs. Sara is mostly raising herself while her mother is selfishly involved in interests other than parenting. She finds solace among the magical wintering home of a million monarch butterflies. Lacking protection from humans, guardian angels in the form of two rescued dogs, who have also had difficult lives, appear for both girls. Could a mysterious old veteran, broken by war, be the very link to unite the two best friends?
